It is no question that influencer marketing is becoming a big deal in the social media world. Nowadays you can’t scroll through anything on your phone without consuming content and seeing an ad for shampoo from your favorite beach bum. So why can’t you be one of these people? As Gary Vee himself says, influencer marketing has just begun, and it’s very underpriced. So how do you get started? Well, here I am to help you with STEP ONE of this process. Figure out your niche and run with it.
Your niche should be the following:
- Tailored to you
- Has an audience
Your niche should be about you. What is it that you love? Do you enjoy taking care of your at home aquarium and want to teach others how to test the calcium levels of your tank? Your niche needs to be something you love, so that when you create content for this particular niche, your audience can sense the enthusiasm and authenticity of your influence.
Your niche needs to have an audience. I am a true believer that everyone has an audience, whether it be big or small. You should pay attention to what others are saying and how they are reacting to the things you love. This will help you test the waters to see if this could be a subject that others find interesting. For example, you’re at work and you start talking about how you walk your cat on a leash, and your entire department is looking at your totally cool pictures and asking you questions about how to get their own cat to walk on a leash. You are already grasping engagement, which is a great sign.
Your niche needs to be unique. How many times have you strolled through Instagram and you see the same girls with blonde highlights, a Starbucks in hand with an orange tinted filter? Go ahead and go count and come back to this. Yes, some of these people are actually very successful in influencing, but they’ve already established themselves on the platform. You can copy these types of influencers in hopes to establish yourself as well, but you have a better chance of doing your own thing, being unique, and being yourself.
For some of us, this may not come too easy, and you might change your mind multiple times. But my advice to you, is to start now. What do you have to lose?
